Enjoy the little things (shhh): first availability from Tumbling Shoals Farm
Me attempting to overcome cultural bias to keep everyone safe(er), or farm fashion during Covid
If you have seen Zombieland, you know that survival depends on a set of rules. Rule #32 is “enjoy the little things”. Today, I confess, I took pleasure in speeding. Yep, you read that right. A few miles outside of Lenoir the speed limit drops from 55 to 45, which I always observe. Except today (please don’t mail me a ticket). It’s long, straight, and still country, and I just took a little bit of pleasure in my mini rebellion.
I feel confident I arrived at my destination at least 1 minute ahead of schedule. My destination was Banner greenhouses to pick up some organic transplants. Tuesday morning is pick up day, where we pass like ships in the night, close enough to acknowledge each other’s existence, yet too far away to engage.
And I wondered to myself: is this, in fact, the great introvert revenge upon us extroverts for all of those super awkward ice breakers we put them through? Because social distancing feels like an introvert utopia of sorts, while I as an extrovert am left screaming inside my head “Hi! How are you?! Let’s hug!”
I’m kidding, of course (and I think I’m awful funny), but it’s an interesting thing how differently we all are experiencing our social isolation. It’s easy to forget what’s going on here at the farm. Since we always work from home and are naturally isolated out here, it almost feels normal. We have, after all, been told basically to keep calm, wash our hands, and keep growing food for people. So that’s what we’ll do, with a few modifications of course.
Some of those modifications are happening this week! I’m happy to announce that we are opening our virtual farm stand for orders to pick up this Saturday in Charlotte and Wilkesboro. Here's the link: https://www.harvie.farm/farm-stand/tumbling-shoals-farm
I am trying to add a couple of more pick up locations (Boone and Hickory) for next week, but I don’t have the logistics worked out for this week and I have to open up the farm stand today so people have enough time to get orders in before Friday when we’ll harvest and pack.
Here’s how it works: there’s a minimum order of $10, so you’ll choose the $10 box option, but you can add as much as you want to the order. Your “registration” will ensure you get the virtual farm stand availability email each week that we have produce available (which will be every week).
Due to the uncertainty of farmers markets, we are also trying to sell more customized full season harvest shares this season. Thank you to everyone who has joined us here at Tumbling Shoals Farm in our efforts to keep our community fed healthy organic foods during this pandemic and hopefully beyond. If you haven’t joined us yet, we are asking that you consider you to consider purchasing a harvest share.
You can sign up here: http://www.harvie.farm/signup/tumbling-shoals-farm and you can find more information here.
Here's how it works: you sign up and pay for your share now (at least in some part-no need to pay it all at once, although there are benefits to that), set your veggie preferences, and then start receiving a box of the freshest, most delicious, custom harvested and packed veggies beginning in May all the way to mid September! Our harvest share is now fully customizable so you only get veggies you love (and you're more likely to eat them). Going on vacation? No problem, put your share on vacation hold.
