![]() When I first began my farming career, I thought farming was growing vegetables. It took me nearly twenty years to realize that farming is not so much growing vegetables, but growing relationships. Don’t get me wrong, we spend most of our days in the process of growing vegetables. But we don’t do that in a vacuum. What we’re actually doing, that allows us to grow vegetables, is growing relationships. We grow relationships with the people to whom we are providing food, and with the people working beside us. Today, celebrating National Hugging Day, those relationships were abundantly clear. Not only did the Tumbling Shoals Farmily not shy away from the idea of National Hugging Day, but they fully embraced it (sorry, pun definitely intended, it’s just how eye roll). The evidence of the love pouring out of this team was enough to warm the coldest heart on this frigid January day. So this is what I mean by growing relationships. And it’s those relationships that ultimately grow the best vegetables. In our case, “grown with love” is not just an empty marketing phrase, it’s the truth. I hope that warms you up on this frigid day.
